*blush* thank you

To the person from Paris who I can’t immediately identify, who purchased the Three Colors Trilogy book from amazon.com for me —

thank you. I can’t wait to read those scripts! But who are you??? (and my apologies for not recognizing your name…)

…huh?

While doing a search for nose exercises — that is, can one learn to twitch one’s nose like Samantha from Bewitched — I found this web page:

Jeannie vs. Samantha @ WWWF Grudge Match

Here’s a sample:

Foolish, foolish, Steve. You’ve fallen right into my trap. Yes, Samantha is always too nice — but this is a cat fight and all rules are off. Sam never sent anyone to a dungeon because she never wanted to. Now she wants to. Did Jeannie ever send someone to a dungeon when it was appropriate? No. It’s appropriate now, but what will she do? (I refer you to my previous elephant/Gobi statement.) Samantha may not be able to reverse Jeannie’s spells (of course, as mentioned, since Jeannie is not a witch this is probably moot), but she won’t have to. Why should be concerned with returning Wednesday from her amphibian state? Or about returning Cousin It from a polar ice flow?

wow

I just watched Martin Scorsese’s The Last Temptation Of Christ (based on the novel by Nikos Kazantzakis – link is to a wonderful essay) again, this time on Criterion’s DVD release (splendid master, I must say.)

Those of you who were put off from seeing this when it was released, perhaps because it was declared as blasphemy, you were too young, or it just didn’t appeal — go and rent it, or come over and see it. This film continues to amaze me, move me to tears, and fill me with joy every time I see it — and I’m not a Christian!

I want to say so much about the film, but really, all I can say is that it so accurately portrays the struggle of a human being coming to terms with a world that’s greater than he is, one that contains more forces than those inside the average human experience. Or — does everyone experience this same struggle? Is that the point, that humanity fundamentally will rediscover this turmoil one individual at a time?

Lesbian Japanese monkeys challenge Darwin’s assumptions

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2003/02/19/waa19.xml says:

The promiscuous sex life of lesbian Japanese monkeys is challenging one of the central tenets of Charles Darwin. He argued that females are coy, mate rarely and choose mates to ensure the best genetic inheritance for their offspring, while males are promiscuous and fight among themselves for female partners.

But after studying Japanese macaques in the wild, Dr Paul Vasey, of the University of Lethbridge, Canada, begs to differ. He found that bisexuality is common in females and that they often compete with males for sexual partners.

okay, okay

I took everyone’s advice and went to the doctor. Spent $46.43 and got “free” drug sample antibiotics, nasal corticosteroid spray, and some Tylenol 1 (hooray for Canada and codeine being OTC!) This should cover the basics of a bacterial infection.

I’ve also been ordered to stay in bed. So no work for me this week, I guess. He said it’ll be OK if I go away for the weekend, as I’ve planned a trip to visit my grandparents and brother in New Orleans for Friday-Monday. (My grandparents are very ill, and my brother and I have some family business to which we must attend.) But I need to conserve my strength.

Thank you all for your well wishes. I believe I’m on the physical road to recovery now. And I’ve only just begun. ^_^

Huzzah!
